Margaret Haigh has created a Word document (.doc file) from a booklet she found of the Mount Tabor Centenary Celebration 1820 - 1920 which also includes the history of the Church School and early members. Margaret has also produced a second document (.docx file) from a booklet supplied by another member covering the history from 1920 to 1970: The Third Fifty Years.

Visitors to Mount Tabor Church will find it a welcoming church to everyone who comes through the doors.

It is a grade two listed building built in 1820 by local men from the quarry nearby freely giving their time, and the organ, also listed, was first played in March 1888.

We are on top of the hill over 1,000 feet above sea level and have beautiful views over the valley from the church.

The school was added in the year 1836 and enlarged in 1871 to its present size.

We have a large car park to the side, with wheelchair access and disabled toilet facilities.

We have a loop system for the hard of hearing with enhanced sound for all to enjoy.

There is a remembrance garden to the front of the church where roses have been planted for members’ loved ones lost; it is kept stocked with seasonable plants all year round, weather permitting.

We enjoy variety of services sometimes our minister or visiting minister, a local preacher or Worship team all of whom bring different styles of worship and everyone is welcomed to the communion table when served.

Parade and Family Services are held every second Sunday monthly.

We have close links with the farming community and the local primary school at Wainstalls who hold their special services here and also the urban Mixenden area all of which gives us our thriving youth groups of all ages.

Our school hall is used for a variety of events including local elections.
